Gryp elke oomblik
Een vir een

Afrikaans Alternative Rock has a new Anchor in the South: Die Kaappunters!

Born from the musical explosion that took place one afternoon in Cape Point at the recording studio of Karring Kaappunter, when Bettie Blatjang, Wian Anders and Victor S. Wolf got together with the rapper Churchil Naudé, originally from Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape but currently residing in Mitchell’s Plain, just around the corner from Kaappunt, thus a local for all practical purposes.  Churchil’s socio-politically charged rap has been receiving the attention of fans and heavyweights in the industry for the last couple of years now, so it seems a perfect marriage with the spicy alternative rock of Die Kaappunters that has never been shy to address societal issues in their music.

The debut album of Die Kaappunters addresses the inequalities left by years of bad systems that disempowered people.  But it does so with humour and compassion, arguing that we should aim to better what we can and not just to complain about wrongs, but to suggest solutions.

Musically the band draws from various sources, from the South African protest music of the 80s, the “Voëlvry Beweging” with artists like Johannes Kerkorrel, Koos Kombuis and James Phillips being three of the main inspirations.  The luxury of having the songwriting talents of both Victor S. Wolf and Wian Anders in the group means that there is a healthy Lennon-McCartney-esque songwriting competition constantly occurring within the group.  This is considered one of the key reasons Karring Kaappunter decided to join the group in the first place.  Karring is of course known in the industry as Mister Volume, the guitarist for Die Gereformeerde Blues Band, the group at the forefront of die Voëlvry beweging, so it is only apt and with great joy that the Kaappunters announces proudly:

We are

Die Kaappunters

And we are here

to Rock and Roll
